Flaccidity is the condition of a cell in which it loses water through osmosis and becomes soft or limp.
- Occurs when plant cells lose water by osmosis to a hypertonic (salt or dry) solution.
- The vacuole shrinks and the cell membrane pulls away from the wall (plasmolysis).
- The cell becomes soft and weak — flaccid.
- Flaccidity causes wilting in leaves and drooping in stems.
